Position Summary

The Quality Control Systems Manager is responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving the company's quality control and quality assurance systems. This position ensures that raw materials, production processes, testing methods, and finished products meet established specifications, customer requirements, and applicable quality standards.

The Quality Control Systems Manager works closely with production, engineering, laboratory personnel, suppliers, and management to identify quality issues, determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and continuously improve manufacturing processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, maintain, and improve quality control policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of quality control and inspection processes throughout manufacturing.
  • Verify that raw materials, purchased components, in-process materials, and finished products meet established specifications and inspection requirements.
  • Review and analyze inspection results, test data, production information, and quality trends.
  • Identify product or process quality problems and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Lead or participate in root cause investigations involving nonconforming products or processes.
  • Establish inspection, sampling, testing, and documentation requirements.
  • Review and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality manuals, work instructions, and other controlled quality documents.
  • Prepare and maintain reports related to nonconformance, inspection results, corrective actions, root cause investigations, and quality trends.
  • Monitor critical points within manufacturing processes and establish appropriate quality controls.
  • Coordinate product testing and inspection activities throughout the production process.
  • Support the development and review of product specifications and acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure quality documentation is accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate quality requirements and quality-related concerns to production personnel, management, suppliers, customers, and other applicable parties.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees regarding inspection methods, quality procedures, documentation, and quality standards.
  • Supervise or provide direction to quality inspectors, technicians, laboratory personnel, or other employees involved in quality activities.
  • Evaluate new inspection methods, testing equipment, technologies, and quality-control techniques.
  • Coordinate the selection and implementation of inspection and measurement equipment.
  • Participate in supplier and contractor quality activities, including review of quality requirements and resolution of deficiencies.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives designed to improve product quality, process capability, efficiency, and consistency.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry practices, quality standards, manufacturing technology, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Exercise authority to stop or hold production when significant product quality or compliance concerns are identified.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Quality, Engineering, Chemistry, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Significant relevant experience in manufacturing, quality control, or quality assurance may be considered in lieu of the preferred degree.
  • Previous experience managing or coordinating a quality system is strongly preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
  • Experience interpreting specifications, drawings, inspection requirements, and technical documentation is preferred.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, quality-management systems, and manufacturing quality tools is beneficial.

Work Environment

This position is based in an office environment with regular work in manufacturing and laboratory areas. The role requires regular interaction with production employees, technical personnel, management, suppliers, and customers.

The employee may be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working in designated manufacturing or laboratory areas. The role requires a high degree of accuracy and responsibility because quality decisions can directly affect production, customer requirements, product acceptance, and company results.

The Quality Control Systems Manager is expected to maintain an effective and practical quality system that supports both product quality and efficient manufacturing. The individual in this position should be able to identify problems early, make well-supported decisions, communicate expectations clearly, and work collaboratively with other departments to prevent recurring quality issues.
